"I paid this proposal for $120 to mail my already drafted demand letter, but only because I was put in a difficult position. After billing over $800 to draft a demand letter, Heather refused to send it via certified mail unless I paid an additional $120. This proposal was presented after the letter had already been sent by email without any explanatory text in the email body, which was unprofessional and undermined the seriousness of the demand. After I paid the additional fee, I expected the letter to be sent using Heather’s firm return address, which is standard practice and conveys legitimacy in a legal demand. Instead, I was asked to provide my personal address for use as the return address. I pushed back on this, as it is highly unusual for a demand letter to be mailed from a client’s address rather than the attorney’s firm, but Heather refused to send it from her firm. As a result, the letter was mailed using my address. This all occurred roughly a week after the demand letter had already been emailed. No additional legal work or analysis was involved at any point. I paid solely to ensure proper delivery after the fact, not because the charge or process was reasonable. Even after this, she did not confirm that she sent the letter via certified mail with return service despite being explicitly asked for this information. She only provided tracking numbers, which does not provide me with this information. This experience reinforced my concern that my entire engagement focused on add-on fees for basic administrative steps rather than providing professional legal representation or client guidance."
